Thought for the Week - General Election
The election might be over – but what of the future? The road ahead might be more clearly defined but it is not without its uncertainties. However, it might not be so much about direction as about the process – the How. The result doesn’t alter the reality that there is still a divided society. And there will still be major disagreements and doubtless much debate. In the Gospel Jesus frequently reminded his followers the “how” they are with others is really important. It’s a Gospel of reconciliation, of forgiveness, of healing, of love working for unity and expressed with humility. Our politicians will still need our prayers – for wisdom in how to proceed so as to take people with them, for humility that recognises there are many different views that need to be listened to, and a desire to reach out in reconciliation. But above all as we approach Christmas when we think of God’s love revealed to us in Jesus, we pray for His love and peace to be evident in our nation. Jonathan |
